Why Brew with a Moka Pot?
The moka pot is a classic for a reason. It delivers a bold, espresso-like cup without the complexity (or price) of an espresso machine.
No noise. Just heat, water, coffee, and time. It’s a slow ritual that feels like travel without leaving home—simple, honest, and deeply satisfying.
At Broken Road Coffee, we love the moka pot for one reason: it makes bold, espresso‑style coffee without the drama. Eco-friendly, compact, durable, and travel-ready, it’s perfect for home counters, camp stoves, and anywhere the road takes you. It’s beautifully uncomplicated.
A moka pot brews rich, concentrated coffee that’s close to espresso in flavor—without the cost or complexity of an espresso machine. It’s compact, durable, and made for movement: perfect for kitchens, cabins, campsites, and anywhere the road takes you.
What You’ll Need
- Moka pot
- Freshly ground coffee (fine grind, espresso-style)
- Hot water
- Scale (optional, but helpful)
- Heat source (stove or burner)
Ratio: Start with ~10g coffee for a small moka pot. Scale up depending on pot size.
The Broken Road Brew Method
1. Start with hot water
Fill the bottom chamber with hot water, just below the safety valve. This protects the coffee from burning and keeps the brew smooth, not bitter.
2. Add the coffee
Place the filter basket in and add finely ground coffee. Level it gently—don’t tamp it down.
3. Seal it up
Screw the top chamber on tightly (use a towel—the base will be hot).
4. Brew slow
Place on medium heat. The flame should only touch the base, not wrap around it. Slow heat = better extraction.
5. Watch the rise
As pressure builds, coffee will flow into the top chamber. Lift the lid and let the moment happen.
6. Finish strong
When the top chamber fills, remove from heat. Total brew time should be about 2–2.5 minutes.
7. Pour + pause
Serve immediately. Take a breath. Let the road be quiet for a second.
How to Drink It
- Straight – bold, grounded, and full-bodied
- Americano-style – add hot water
- Latte-style – add warm or foamed milk
The moka pot is versatile. Just like the journey.
Final Thought
Moka pot brewing isn’t about speed. It’s about presence. Heat. Stillness. Ritual. The kind of coffee that doesn’t rush you—it meets you where you are.
Brew slow. Drink deep. Keep moving.
