Yellowstone doesn't do anything halfway. It is geysers and glaciers, wolves and wildflowers, ancient rock and boiling water breaking through the surface of the earth without apology. It is four distinct ecosystems existing in improbable, breathtaking harmony — each one complete on its own, each one made greater by the others.
When we set out to create a coffee worthy of that name, we knew one origin wasn't going to be enough.
Broken Road Signature Yellowstone is a four-origin medium roast blend — our most ambitious coffee, and the one we're most proud of. Brazil. Colombia. Ethiopia. Guatemala. Four countries, four distinct growing traditions brought together with the same intention that defines everything in our National Parks Series: to create something that captures not just a place, but a feeling.
This is the story of how we got there.
America's First National Park Deserved Something Special
Yellowstone became the world's first national park on March 1, 1872, when President Ulysses S. Grant signed it into law — protecting more than two million acres of mountain wilderness, geysers, and wild landscape for future generations.
For years before that, explorers had returned from the region with stories of steaming pools and shooting geysers that most people dismissed as myth. It took an artist and a photographer — Thomas Moran and William Henry Jackson — joining a 40-day geological survey in 1871 to finally make Congress believe what was there. When Congress viewed their work, the effect was immediate. Within a year, Yellowstone was protected forever.
We think about that a lot at Broken Road. The idea that some places are worth going out of your way for. Worth fighting for. Worth protecting. Yellowstone is the original version of that idea — the park that started everything.
Four Origins, One Cup
Every origin in the Yellowstone blend was chosen for what it contributes — and for how it works with the others. Nothing here is accidental. Like the park itself, each element has a role, and the magic is in how they coexist.
Brazil — The Foundation Rich chocolate warmth and full-bodied structure. The bedrock everything else is built on. Brazilian beans anchor the blend with natural sweetness and depth that keeps the cup grounded from the first sip to the last.
Colombia — The Bridge Smooth, refined sweetness that holds the blend together without demanding attention. Colombian coffee connects the boldness of Brazil with the brightness of Guatemala — the quiet force that makes everything feel seamless.
Ethiopia — The Complexity Floral, nuanced, and quietly extraordinary. Ethiopia brings the note that makes you pause mid-sip and reach for the cup again. It is the origin that elevates this blend from great to genuinely memorable.
Guatemala — The Brightness Clean citrus lift and structural clarity that keeps the profile lively and expressive. Without Guatemala, this cup would be rich but heavy. With it, the finish opens up and breathes.
What surprised us most in the blending process was how quickly these four origins found each other. We went through more than thirty iterations before landing on the final ratio — but when we did, the harmony was immediate. It tasted like it had always existed.
The Park That Inspired It
Yellowstone contains four distinct ecosystems within its boundaries — each shaped by different forces, different altitudes, different relationships between water and rock and sky.
The geothermal basin in the south drives Old Faithful and the Grand Prismatic Spring — raw power beneath the surface that reminds you how alive the earth still is. The alpine plateau defines the park's northern reaches, high and austere and endless. The river valleys — Lamar and Hayden — are the wildlife corridors that draw visitors from around the world. And the ancient old-growth forests shelter everything living beneath them from a world moving too fast.
None of these ecosystems could exist without the others. Everything is connected. Everything is in balance.
Our blend is built on the same principle. The richness of Brazil is the geothermal core — the energy everything flows from. Colombia is the river valley, smooth and connecting. Ethiopia is the alpine altitude — complex, unexpected, worth the climb. Guatemala is the forest canopy — structural, clarifying, quietly essential.
Four forces. One extraordinary cup.
What It Tastes Like
We'll keep this simple, because great coffee doesn't need poetry — it needs honesty.
Yellowstone opens with toffee sweetness — warm, natural, and immediately familiar. Dark chocolate settles in through the mid-palate with a richness that you'd notice immediately if it weren't there. And then a thread of citrus brightness cuts through the finish, lifting the cup just enough to keep it from feeling heavy and adding the clarity that makes you want the next sip.
Roast: Medium Flavor Profile: Toffee, Dark Chocolate, Citrus Origin: Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia & Guatemala Blend
Balanced in a way that feels effortless. Complex in a way that doesn't demand effort. The kind of cup you could drink every day and find something new in every time.
How to Brew Yellowstone
Yellowstone is one of the most versatile coffees we make. Four origins at a medium roast creates a profile that performs beautifully across every method.
Drip: 200°F, 1:15 ratio. Reliable, consistent, and genuinely excellent through a standard filter basket. The toffee and chocolate notes lead; the citrus finish stays clean and present.
French Press: 1:12 ratio, 4-minute steep. Fuller and richer — brings the Brazilian richness and Ethiopian complexity forward. Worth trying on a slow morning.
Pour Over: Medium grind, 1:16 ratio, water just off the boil. The most expressive version of this blend. More nuance, more clarity, more of everything that makes it worth drinking.
Espresso: Pulls a naturally sweet, full-bodied shot with dark chocolate depth and a citrus finish that holds up beautifully with or without milk.
Every Cup Gives Back
A portion of every Broken Road Signature purchase goes directly to the National Parks Conservation Association — helping protect Yellowstone and every park that inspires us.
Yellowstone has been protected for over 150 years because people believed it was worth protecting. We feel the same way. Every bag of Yellowstone you buy contributes to keeping the park wild, accessible, and intact for the people who haven't made it there yet.
That feels like the right reason to drink a great cup of coffee.
